肉眼で見は見ることのできない生物・非生物の微小な世界を顕微鏡撮影で収めた教材映画。バクテリア、菌類やカビから、塩などの結晶、さらに花粉や人体の毛根、水中の様々な微生物や原生動物、そして金魚のヒレの中の血流までを見せてゆく。元素材はサイレントだがほぼ同時期に製作されたトーキー版の方が尺長が長いだけでなく検閲記録の申請時期も早く、参考文献（『日本文化映画年鑑 昭和15年版』二〇四頁）の内容説明から、トーキー版には害虫や寄生虫の場面もあったことが確認できる。また、元素材では無音のサウンドトラック（黒味）のために画面の横幅が狭くなっており、メインタイトルでは「緻」の糸偏の一部が欠けている。

「フィルムは記録する ―国立映画アーカイブ歴史映像ポータル―」では、1923年から1943年までの間に撮影・製作された25作品を公開するとともに検索機能を中心にサイトをリニューアルしました。国内外の風物・産業・暮らしを紹介する旅の映画、全国的なスポーツ大会や各種の記念式典の記録などのほか、防空思想や軍事力をテーマとした教化・宣伝映画など、戦前期の多様な側面を伝える歴史映像をリニューアルしたサイトでお楽しみください。

The eighth edition of this site presents 25 additional titles covering the years from 1923 to 1943. The selection includes a variety of works that convey different aspects of the prewar period. There are films that document domestic and international travel introducing scenery, industry, and lifestyles, or special events such as national sporting tournaments and various commemorative ceremonies, on the other hand educational and propaganda films that focus on air defense ideas and military power.
