Classics -- A Documentary of the Ukou Ferryboat and the Seto Bridge [Rail Report #01]
In 1988, Seto Bridge was formally opened to connect Japan's mainland of Honshu to Shikoku, one of four islands across the inland sea of Seto.
In line with the completion of the Seto bridge, the Ukou Ferryboat, operated by Japan Railway (JR Shikoku), was taken out of service.
We will introduce the Ukou Ferryboat's final day.
Highlights included are the ferry's interior, the bridge deck, the retiring captain, and the final sailing before retirement.
The day after the ferry's retirement, the Seto bridge was opened with a highway running above and a railway running consecutively below.
We will introduce the various trains currently running on the Seto bridge as well as the new Limited Express train in Shikoku.
