4代目 R129型として1989年にデビュー、2シーター・オープンボディは、イタリア人デザイナー、ブルーノ･サッコの最高傑作とも言われている。

ウェッジシェイプボディラインにメルセデス･ベンツのフラッグシップに相応しいエレガンスさを兼ね備えていた。

またSLとしては電動格納式のソフトトップを標準装備。車両の傾きを感知した際に起き上がり搭乗者を保護するロールオーバーバーが装備された。

1992年、V12エンジン搭載の600SLとして登場、1994年からマイナーチェンジによりSL600の呼称に変更された。

ミッションは5速AT、搭載される水冷V型12気筒4カム48バルブエンジンは5987ccの排気量から、最高出力394ps(290kW)/5200rpm、最大トルク58.2kg・m(570.7N・m)/3800rpmを発揮した。

Debuted in 1989 as the fourth-generation R129 model, the two-seater open body is said to be the masterpiece of Italian designer Bruno Sacco.

The wedge-shaped body line combined elegance befitting a Mercedes-Benz flagship.

Also, as an SL, it comes standard with an electrically retractable soft top. It is also equipped with a rollover bar that rises up to protect passengers when it detects the vehicle tilting.

Introduced in 1992 as the 600SL with a V12 engine, and was renamed SL600 in 1994 after a minor change.

The transmission was a 5-speed automatic, and the water-cooled V12 4-cam 48-valve engine had a displacement of 5987cc, producing a maximum output of 394ps (290kW)/5200rpm and a maximum torque of 58.2kg・m (570.7N・m)/3800rpm.
