入力規則のリストは便利です。同じようなデータを入力するとき、セルの▼をクリックしてリストを表示して、リストから選択するだけの簡単操作です。操作性の利点だけでなく、手入力による打ち間違いも防げます。さて、そんな入力規則のリストですが、表示するデータがシート内に存在しているケースも多いです。そうしたシート内のデータをリストに表示するとき「同じデータは1件として、重複しないリスト」から選択したいというのは、ごく自然な希望です。よくセミナーなどで「できますか？」と質問を受けます。ちょうど先日のセミナーでも久しぶりにこの件を聞かれました。えーとですね、なんか申し訳ないんですけど、今は自動的にそうなるんですよ。このときも実際にやって見せたら驚かれました。これ、2023年の8月頃に仕様変更されました。実務では、かなり嬉しい機能なんですが、なぜかあまり知られていません。不思議ですね。こういう情報こそ、多くのExcelユーザーに知っていただきたいです。

The Data Validation list feature is incredibly handy. When entering repetitive data, you just click the arrow next to the cell and select from the dropdown. It’s not only great for user experience, but it also completely prevents manual typos.

Often, the source data for these lists already exists somewhere in your sheet. When using that data, it’s only natural to want a clean dropdown with "unique values only, hiding any duplicates." I get asked "Is this possible?" all the time at my seminars—in fact, someone just asked me again the other day.

Well, I almost feel a bit bad saying this, but nowadays, Excel just does it automatically. When I demonstrated this in class, everyone was shocked. This specification change rolled out around August 2023. It’s a massive quality-of-life update for real-world work, yet surprisingly few people seem to know about it. It’s a mystery to me why it’s flew under the radar, but this is exactly the kind of modern Excel knowledge I want every user to know.
