ここは和歌山県田辺市・天神崎。
潮が引くと潮溜まりが鏡のように空を映し出し、静かな絶景を見せてくれます。
本来、この場所は夕景のほうがよりドラマティックな表情を見せることで知られています。
けれど、朝の天神崎にもまた、穏やかで澄んだ時間が流れていました。
この一帯は沖合まで岩礁が続いているため、早朝から多くの釣り人たちが釣竿を担ぎ、ゆっくりと海へ向かって歩いていきます。
静かな潮溜まりに映る空と、その中を進んでいく人影。
どこか、この土地の日常そのものが風景になっているようでした。
天神崎は、日本のナショナルトラスト運動の先駆けとしても知られています。
1970年代、この地に別荘地開発計画が持ち上がった際、市民たちが寄付を募り、開発予定地を買収・保全したことで、この景観と自然環境が守られました。
その後も、植樹活動や海岸清掃、生態系を学ぶ活動など、多くの人たちによって「自然」が受け継がれています。
美しい景色に多くの人が惹かれるのは当たり前のこと。
同時に、その風景や生態系を守り続けることも、同じくらい大切なのだと思います。
近年は、観光地に人が集中することで、交通渋滞や生活環境への影響など、いわゆる“観光公害”も各地で問題になっています。
観光による経済効果だけではなく、そこに暮らす人々や自然とのバランス。
そして、その場所を訪れる一人ひとりのマナーや意識。
天神崎の静かな朝景を眺めながら、そんなことをふと考えていました。

ここに美しき日本があります。

Tanabe City’s Tenzin-zaki in Wakayama Prefecture.
When the tide goes out, the tidal pools mirror the sky, revealing a quiet and breathtaking world.
This place is better known for its dramatic sunsets,
yet the mornings at Tenzin-zaki carried their own calm and crystalline atmosphere.
Because rocky reefs stretch far offshore, many anglers arrive before sunrise, carrying their fishing rods as they slowly walk out toward the sea.
The sky reflected in the still tidal pools,
and the silhouettes of people moving across them.
It felt as though the everyday life of this place itself had become part of the landscape.
Tenzin-zaki is also known as one of the birthplaces of Japan’s National Trust movement.
In the 1970s, when plans emerged to develop this area into a resort villa site, local citizens raised donations to purchase and preserve the land.
Thanks to those efforts, this scenery and its natural ecosystem still remain today.
Since then, many people have continued to protect this place through activities such as tree planting, coastal cleanups, and environmental education programs focused on the local ecosystem.
It is only natural that beautiful landscapes attract people.
At the same time, I believe protecting those landscapes and ecosystems is just as important.
In recent years, many tourist destinations have faced problems caused by overtourism — traffic congestion, impacts on daily life, and pressure on local environments.
Beyond the economic benefits of tourism, there must also be a balance with the lives of local residents and the surrounding nature.
And perhaps it ultimately comes down to the awareness and manners of each person who visits these places.
As I stood there watching the quiet morning scenery of Tenzin-zaki,
these were the thoughts that quietly came to mind.
